Humble Church Branding + Website
Humble Church is a new church plant launching near Southglenn in Centennial, Colorado, with a vision to see people live humbly before Jesus and hustle with purpose.
When Pastor Von Craver reached out about branding and a website for the church plant, this project hit different for me. Years ago, I planted a church just outside Nashville, Tennessee. I know firsthand how important it is to get the identity right early, especially when you're trying to cast vision and rally people around something that doesn't fully exist yet. This was more than just another project. It was personal.
The Brand Direction
Von wanted something that felt like Colorado. Earthy, bold, and grounded, but with an athletic edge. The vision of Humble Church centers around humility and hustle, and he wanted the brand to reflect that tension. Not soft and passive, but confident and purpose-driven.
The color palette draws from the Colorado landscape. Deep, warm earth tones with a rich green that feels rooted and organic. The overall brand system leans into bold typography and clean layouts that give the church a modern, approachable identity without losing its edge.
The Logo Concept
What I landed on was an asterisk-style logo mark. The main arms of the asterisk represent the body of Christ and the community Humble Church is building in Centennial. The arrow pointing down fills in the "missing piece" of the asterisk, representing bringing heaven down and introducing Jesus to a community that needs Him.
As a bonus, the mark nailed the athletic vibe Von was looking for. It's bold, geometric, and feels like something you'd see on a jersey or a team crest. That was exactly the energy they wanted.
Building the Website in Webflow
The website needed to be simple, professional, and easy to navigate. In the early stages of a church plant, you don't need twenty pages. You need one clear, well-built page that tells people who you are, what you believe, and how to get involved.
I built the site in Webflow and delivered a clean, modern one-page layout with all the essentials. But beyond the initial design, the site also includes several custom-built features that go well beyond a standard Webflow build.
Planning Center Calendar Sync. I built a custom integration using a Vercel serverless function that automatically syncs events from Humble Church's Planning Center account into the Webflow CMS. When the team creates an event in Planning Center, it shows up on the website within minutes with no manual updates needed. The sync runs on a scheduled cron job every 15 minutes, pulling event names, dates, times, locations, and registration links directly from the Planning Center Calendar API.
Custom Contact Form with Planning Center Integration. Rather than using Webflow's default form handling, I built a custom contact form modal that collects visitor information and routes it through a Google Apps Script backend to send responses directly to the pastor's inbox. The form pops up on a timed delay, uses a blurred background overlay, and matches the site's dark, earthy aesthetic.
Rotating Pastor Photo Gallery. The pastor section of the site features a custom JavaScript photo rotator that crossfades between four family photos of Von and his wife. It uses a two-layer opacity fade technique for smooth transitions instead of the jarring snap you'd get with a basic image swap.
Email Capture Modal. A timed popup modal that invites visitors to join the launch team, with form submissions routed to Planning Center via a serverless backend. The modal inherits the site's fonts and colors automatically and includes a localStorage check so returning visitors don't see it repeatedly.

SEO Foundation
I also provided a full SEO audit and optimization plan for the site. This included optimized page titles and meta descriptions targeting local keywords like "church in Centennial Colorado" and "new church plant Centennial CO," image alt text recommendations, heading structure cleanup, Open Graph tags for social sharing, and guidance on setting up their Google Business Profile for local search visibility.
What Made This Project Special
Church plants are a unique branding challenge. You're building an identity for something that's still becoming. You're casting vision for a community that doesn't fully exist yet. The brand has to be strong enough to rally people and flexible enough to grow.
For Humble Church, the asterisk mark, the earthy Colorado palette, and the bold athletic feel all came together to give Von and his team exactly what they needed: an identity that says "we're here, we're serious, and we're building something that matters."
